Coffee With  A Cop is not a unique idea.  The program actually started in Hawthorne, California, in 2011, when the police officers were looking for more positive ways to interact with the citizens that they served each and every day.

I was in kindergarten when the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting took place in December of 2012.  Since that fateful day, there have been countless other school shootings, as well as cries to defund the police. As someone who hopes to study Communications in college, I understand the importance of building positive relationships and learning from others.  Bringing our local public safety officers and students together can help us build a stronger and safer community for all to enjoy.  Oakwood is a great place to go to school and to live and I want to make sure that it continues to be just that.
